Craigslist Killer and Swine

With all this scary information pouring through our internet, television, and blackberries about the recent Swine Flu and Craigslist Killer there has to be some sort of correlation. Some sort of common denominator. Let's explore some options.

SKIN:
The Craigslist Killer and Swine both have a pinkish skin. If you look at the face of both, there are similarities of childlike and sad demeanor. Hence, a good newsworthy face to use for both sympathy and intrigue.

DIRTY SECRETS:
Pigs birth things like ham and bacon which we all, even you vegetarians!, fall victim too in either eating or smelling while drooling from time to time. But obesity is usually caused by thinking you are not good enough to live. The pigs are depressed because they are not accepted as good enough to live. How many times do we associate a pig with mud, stinking, and snorty?

The murderer is engaged to marry a woman, but has a double life killing women and seeking out transvestites. Killing people because they have something he doesn't perhaps? Femininity or the power to show it? Possibly. But why is the media so intent on reporting this story and on this person? It's not the first time film and media has taken homosexuality and linked it with deviant behavior.

So now we can focus on dirty swine and gays, instead of poverty, corruption, and deaths in Iraq-the truly dirty secrets that we are temporarily ignoring.

Did you know you can't get the swine flu by eating swine? A detail left out of many stories.Even MSN reported on the swine flu with a title implying that people must stop eating pork. And then linked to the facts in a less prominent section of the page.

Any murderer is not justified, but just like the pig, don't let a little media stunt push you to fear, generalizations, and furthering our country's discriminations.
