An Analysis of The Bachelor: An Educated Approach to Reality Television?

Take one guy who is pretty much outwardly perfect. And he has a little boy. And they are perfect. And they are happy. Which is also perfect. And the guy has a six pack and a killer tan. Which is LA perfect. And the guy wants to meet a woman who he can love and treat like a princess which is, like, so so perfect. And the guy gets his heart broken all the time because women think he's too nice, which makes him the perfect catch because women want a man who is just existing to be perfect. Great, perfect.

Then there are 25 girls who want to marry him and TV is going to show us the blood and guts of the battle and we know the drill and some get a rose but some don't and then somebody cries and goes home and its really really so perfect because the one girl you lease suspect is going to win a rose and its sweet and gets good and then commercial.

And then you are sitting there just thinking to yourself, how do these people go on a tv show and decide that for sure they are going to fall in love with this one guy? And you really start to think about it and it starts to feel like its not really realistic and seems forced and not perfect perfect but fake perfect and then suddenly the show comes back on.

And then they interview the Bachelor about love and his ex wife, and ex girlfriend from the Bachelorette and he talks about 'pain brings experience' and yet you just still are sitting there thinking you can't quite pinpoint why the hell you are watching this show.

And then the ending comes and by this point you've given up feeling bad for watching the whole 2 hour saga, and you've decided who he's going to pick and who he's not going to pick and then when he doesn't pick them you are pissed and shout out "WHAT?" and realize you have a headache and you shed a tear for the wedding planner who is crying because she didn't get picked but you feel so bad for her for wearing leopard print.

And just when it starts to sink in that you are a complete idiot for buying into this crap, they show the sneak previews and DEANNA IS COMING BACK and you are thinking "this is bullsh*t, I'm so going to be watching that."

The Bachelor. Mondays at 7pm. Don't watch it.

This made me laugh so hard. I will not watch it, I promise.

Might I suggest the show "Rock of Love" with Brett Michaels as an alternative? It's just as fake, but the seriously damaged and emotionally retarded people are totally incapable of even pretending they know where they are or why, so you can really just enjoy the drunken crying, the drunken making out and the drunken vomiting without the confusion of becoming emotionally invested. Even Brett Michaels seems to not get the point of the show, or his life, and it's all about him!

Enjoy!
